What do Shakespeare, Edgar Allan Poe, Lewis Carroll, John Milton, and Sara Teasdale all have in common? They are all poets that will be read aloud on Instagram Live @lawngnomepublishing every weekday at 1pm PST for the remainder of April, National Poetry Month.

Join a cast of poetry slam performers as they perform classic works of poetry aimed to spark memories in those living with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. We understand that during this month, many of our elderly community members are living alone or with less visits from family members. If you are a caregiver, savvy with a mobile device, or simply love classical poetry and are physically distancing with someone who learned poetry in their life, then this online event is for you.

These poems and performances are curated by International Poetry Interpretation Champion, Aaron Hopkins-Johnson. Hopkins-Johnson has been reading classic poetry to those living with memory loss since 2004 as part of the Alzheimer’s Poetry Project, under direction of the late Christopher Lane of NORAZ Poets and Gary Glazner, founder of the Alzheimer’s Poetry Project.

The mission of the APP is to improve the quality of life of people living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia by facilitating creative expression through poetry. APP does not set boundaries in our beliefs in what is possible for people with memory impairment to create. Learn more about APP at www.alzpoetry.com.
