Arizona Open Book Society | Lend An Ear by Tayo Talabi

Arizona Open Book Society Presents: "Lend An Ear"

By Tayo Talabi (A Short Play Reading) 6pm at Lawn Gnome Publishing.

Tayo Talabi is a playwright and performer from Phoenix, AZ.

The short play she wrote, "Lend An Ear" gives an unfiltered insight into the struggles of what some women of color go through and how it has effected them and made them into the women they are today.

"Mental health needs to be considered just as important as physical health. And as a woman of color it has been a life long struggle to find people in and outside of our community that can validate and understand the internal struggles we go through."

This short play reading is to help people understand life from a different perspective and to tell women of color going through depression or anxiety or any mental health issue, that they should not continue to hide their pain, that they are not alone, that they can be heard.

What makes this event unique is the of discussion of mental health through performance art (theatre). The audience will hear the unfiltered perspective from those who've spent their lives marginalized and silenced. There will be a talk back which gives the audience a chance to provide feedback about the short play, about mental health and means to find and receive support.
